Lubrication Technology Decreases Friction Wear on Clutch Brake System The Posidyne Size 30 clutch brake from Force Control Industries can be operated as a clutch only for pump or fan applications, or as a clutch brake for cycling or indexing applications. Its "oil shear technology" is designed to dynamically accelerate or decelerate high-inertia loads without wear on friction discs, resulting in maintenance-free, no-downtime operation. By contrast, dry friction clutches or brakes are designed to lock up and tend to show significant wear if used dynamically, the company says. The system consists of seven basic components: an input shaft connected to the motor or engine, an output shaft connected to the load, a clutch and brake stack consisting of multiple alternating friction discs and drive plates, a piston centrally located between the brake and clutch to engage either one or the other, piston seals, springs that tend to push the piston to the brake side, and transmission fluid. With the oil shear technology, transmission fluid flowing through the friction stack is put in a shear condition during dynamic engagement. It transmits torque between the friction discs and drive plates, protecting the parts from mechanical contact and absorbing the heat of engagement as it flows through the stack. Upon exiting the stack, the fluid flows down the housing walls where it is cooled and then into the bottom of the unit to re-circulate back into the friction area. The transmission fluid also serves to lubricate the bearings and splines for improved operating life. The clutch brake is designed to operate nearly maintenance-free for about 40,000,000 cycles. It is suited for bulk materials handling applications such as use on conveyors and load-out conveyors, as well as bulk loading applications like rail car dumpers, portside conveyors and other "no-downtime" applications. Infrared Boost System Works with Hot Air Ovens David Weisman LLC's "fast response" electric infrared boost oven system is designed to quickly boost the temperature of liquid or powder coatings on products before they enter a hot air/ convection oven. The system features electric infrared heaters and controls, and a modular design that enables the addition of more heated height or of an air recirculation system. As a boost system used in conjunction with an existing hot air/ convection oven, it is said to provide significant energy savings and enable increased line speeds and product throughput while using minimal floor space. The oven system also can dry or cure problem areas on parts, and reduce or eliminate cross-color contamination on powder-coated parts. The system also can be used as a stand-alone cure oven. Powder Neutralizes, Absorbs Flocculants Innovative Next Generation Products' Floc-Off powder is designed to safely and effectively remove flocculants that have been spilled or misplaced in water. The multi-component system uses the principles of absorption and apsorption to remove virtually all types of flocculants and, because Floc-Off is non-hazardous product, it can then be disposed of in the trash or washed down a drain, the company says Innovative Next Generation Products, call 414-430-0391 or visit flocoff.com. Adapter Eases Installation of Bath Analyzer SensoTech GmbH has developed an installation adapter to simplify incorporation of its LiquiSonic analyzer for measuring concentration of pickling and etching baths. The adapter ensures that the LiquiSonic flange-type conductivity sensor is correctly installed into the pipeline system. It is available for pipeline systems with nominal diameters of DN80, or 3 or 4 inches. The adapter is made of polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) for high thermal and chemical resistance against hydrochloric and sulfuric acid. Maximum operating temperature is 100°C at an operating pressure of maximum 0.8 bar. SensoTech GmbH, call 49 39203 514100 or visit sensotech.com. pfonline.com 49
