Black Oxide System Offers Safe In-House Option
Birchwood Technologies' BC40 Presto Black finishing system
offers manufacturers a low cost and safe entry option for taking
black oxide finishing in-house. The seven-tank process line, with
20-minute room temperature blackening capabilities, comes
complete with tank system, heaters, plumbing connections and
tank lids. Users have a zero-discharge option that minimizes
environmental concerns with the company's preconfigured Ion
Exchange system to purify and recycle rinse waters. The system
is designed to simplify setting up a room temperature, in-house
blackening line.
The non-dimensional Presto Black finish offers good corro-
sion with a uniform thickness of 0.000030 inch (1 micron). The
porous crystalline structure of the black finish can be used as
an absorbent base for a rust-preventive top coat. Once sealed,
the Presto Black finish resists up to 1,200 hours' humidity
without chipping or peeling.

develop an integrated solution for automated paint application
in the form of a compact robot for the use in general industry
applications.
While the robot comes from Kuka, Dürr provides the paint
application technology. Pre-installed and ready-to-spray, the ro-
bot contains fully compatible, tried-and-tested components and
offers a unique combination in the market. It is perfectly suited
to the requirements of general industry and areas of application
include the painting of wood, plastics, glass and metal.

PPG Outperforms Two-Component Epoxy Primers
PPG introduces its Spectracron AdvantEdge HPP primer, a pat-
ented polyurethane primer that offers enhanced performance
on sharp laser-cut edges, corrosion protection and chip resis-
tance compared to traditional two-component epoxy primers.
For customers using pretreated metals from third-party
suppliers, the Spectracron AdvantEdge HPP primer can help
users make metal parts that are more uniform prior to finish-
ing even when the quality and type of pretreatment varies.
