8 SEPTEMBER 2017 — PFonline.com Former Products Finishing Liquid Coatings Columnist Carl Izzo Passes Carl Izzo, an expert in the field of liquid coatings and a Products Finishing columnist for several decades, passed away in July in Murraysville, Pennsylvania. Izzo spent a career as a scientist researching paints and coatings for West- inghouse and PPG. He graduated with a chemistry degree from Duquesne University in 1954 and went to work for PPG's Research Center, developing many of the coatings that major U.S. industries still use today. Westing- house lured him away in 1959, and he stayed there for 32 years until leaving to start his own consulting firm in 1992. Izzo was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Campbell Izzo, and his son, Carl P. Izzo Jr. He is survived by three daughters, a daughter-in-law, 10 grandchildren and a sister. PPG to Acquire Coatings Application Services Provider The Crown Group PPG says it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire The Crown Group, a U.S.-based coatings application services busi- ness, from High Road Capital Partners and Charter Oak Capital Partners. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed. Headquartered in Warren, Michigan, Crown has 950 employ- ees and is one of the leading component and product finishers in North America. The company applies coatings to customers' manufactured parts and assembled products at 11 U.S. sites. Most of Crown's operations, which also include assembly, warehousing and sequencing services, are located at customer facilities or positioned near customer manufacturing sites. The company serves manufacturers in automotive, agriculture, construction, heavy truck and alternative energy industries. "Crown is a leader in coatings application, and this acquisi- tion will enhance PPG's ability to service its original equipment manufacturer customers," says Viktor Sekmakas, PPG execu- tive vice president. "PPG continues to help customers simplify this portion of the product finishing process, enabling them to focus on their core competencies of product design and manufacturing. Our growing coatings application services capability allows PPG to have a more intimate understand- ing of our manufacturing customers' coatings needs and offer enhanced, end-to-end solutions and services." Midwest Finishing Systems Expands Operations with Second Facility Midwest Finishing Systems, manufacturer of turnkey powder coating systems, has expanded its operations with a second building located near the company's headquarters in Mishawaka, Indiana.
