THE VOICE OF FINISHING 80 YEARS AkzoNobel to Acquire BASF's Industrial Coatings Business Axalta and Jeff Gordon Make a Splash at ECOAT16 Axalta Coating Systems and NASCAR icon Jef Gordon made a splash at the ECOAT16 Conference in Orlando, Florida, when they announced the global launch of AquaEC 6100, Axalta's newest cathodic epoxy electrocoat product. Gordon appeared at the show alongside Mike Cash, Axalta's senior vice president and resident of its Industrial Coatings business, and Michael Bennet, Axalta's global electrocoat director, to debut AquaEC 6100, a tin-free technology that the company says ofers excellent mechanical properties, superior corrosion resistance and enhanced edge protection. "We're honored to have Jef, who has always been at the cutting edge of sports," Cash says. "Our main goal is to go beyond developing and delivering a great product. Our goal is to increase the proftability of each customer." Gordon retired last year from racing, and has since joined the Fox Sports racing broadcast team. "I've always had a great relationship with Axalta," Gordon says, who raced under the company colors for several years. "Anytime I can help them get the word out about new products, I'm glad to help." AkzoNobel has made an ofer to acquire BASF's Industrial Coatings business for $531 million. The transaction would include technologies, patents and trademarks, as well as securing supply to customers worldwide. Two manufacturing plants in the U.K. and South Africa would also be transferred to AkzoNobel. "This proposed acquisition will strengthen our position in the important coil coatings market and will ft well with our existing business, enabling us to ofer essential solutions to our customers," says AkzoNobel CEO Ton Büchner. The planned transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2016, subject to regular consultation with employee representatives and satisfaction of certain closing conditions, including receipt of required regulatory approval.
