PRODUCTS FINISHING NEW PRODUCTS Edited by El McKenzie Spray On! Walther Pilot's new automatic spray gun boasts versatility, operator-friendly features. Walther Pilot's new WA 900 automatic spray gun is designed to be versatile enough to spray just about any material as well as be implemented in almost all types of system confgurations. This includes the application of varnishes, adhesives, mold release agents, and even aggressive or abrasive media, according to the company. "It was necessary to cover all user application needs in order to successfully design a gun that would cater to all of the requirements of the industrial operator," says Walther Pilot Marketing Director Walter Kaspers. "In the WA 900 we implemented a design that allows the same gun model to be used in both traditional and re-circulation systems." It is a combination of two material inputs that enables the gun to be used with re-circulation systems, Kaspers explains. When only one material input is needed, an operator simply inserts the closure pin into the gun to plug the second connection, and the gun is then prepped for a standard system. The gun features a stainless steel construction for all parts that come into contact with media, ensuring that corrosion from spraying water-based or aggressive media won't be an issue. Finishes Protect Oil, Gas Drilling Components Birchwood Technologies' MicroLok AO and Tru Temp fnishes are formulated to provide corrosion protection for oil and gas drilling components using safe, low-temperature and environmentally friendly processes. Well-suited as a non-polluting replacement for cold blackeners, MicroLok AO protects iron and steel components, forming a non-toxic, aluminum oxide conversion coating that is 0.000060" (1.5 microns) thick and silver/black in color, and tightly adheres to the metal surface. When sealed with a rust preventive, the fnish is said to provide robust corrosion protection that is better than cold blackening at less cost and without pollution hazards. MicroLok AO contains no regulated chemicals, so process rinse waters are generally sewerable as non-hazardous discharge. Additional benefts include anti-galling protection to aid in assembly and startup, temperature stability as high as 1,400°F, safe 120-140°F operation with no boiling or splattering, no scale or sludge buildup in tanks, and simplifed bath maintenance that requires only pH monitoring. Birchwood's Tru Temp low-temperature black oxide fnish is formulated to protect valves, couplings, pumps and associ46 NOVEMBER 2013 — ated oil and gas drilling components against corrosion while providing break-in lubricity and anti-galling protection. The satin black fnish is just 0.5-microns thick and can withstand as many as 100-150 hours of neutral salt spray (ASTM B 117) or several hundred hours of humidity (ASTM D 1748). Tru Temp also contains no EPA-regulated chemicals, so its process rinse waters are sewerable as non-hazardous discharge as well. Birchwood Technologies / 800-328-6156 /
