Designed for rugged, industrial applications, the conveyors feature a hardened-alloy construction that prevent premature wear when transporting abrasive or heavy materi- als like shot blast, tumbling media or metal fittings. Large throat diameters make it possible to convey more mate- rial over longer vertical and horizontal lengths. According to the company, the conveying rate is typically twice that of ordinary air-powered conveyors. The units eject a small amount of compressed air through directed nozzles into the throat to produce a vacuum on one end and high output flows on the other. The material conveying rate is easily con- trolled with a pressure regulator. Seven sizes ranging to 3" (76 mm) are available to fit popular hose and tube diameters. Threaded models are available for use with common pipe. Exair Corp. / 800-903-9247 / Microfinisher Generates Fine Functional Surfaces The Microteq microfinisher from Industrial Metal Products Corp. (IMPCO) is a single-station system with computer numerical control designed to generate final functional surface texture to tolerances unattainable with grinding. The machine, which uses the company's proprietary microfinish- ing attachment loaded with abrasive film, was used to process a family of 68 aerospace control surface actua- tion shaƞs to better than 0.1 Ra, while creating a functional surface for the component. Besides meeting surface finish requirements, the company says the system reduced the cycle time to process the shaƞs from minutes to seconds, with a consistency from feature to fea- ture and part to part. Previously, each of the shaƞs in the family of parts had to be set up manually then processed by hand, resulting in inconsistent surface quality. The machine is designed to microfinish diameters ranging to 75 mm on any precision, load-bearing shaƞ to 1,000 mm in length. Such shaƞs are used in pumps, compressors, aerospace control surfaces and transmissions.
