500°F Top-Loading Oven Dries Piston Rings
Grieve Corp.'s No. 844 is a 500°F (260°C) top-loading oven cur-
rently used for drying water from racks of piston rings. Work-
space dimensions measure 48" × 48" × 36", and 40 kW of power
is installed in Incoloy-sheathed tubular heating elements. A
4,200-cfm, 3-hp recirculating blower provides horizontal airflow
to the workload.
The oven fea-
tures 4" insulated
walls; an alumi-
nized steel exterior;
and a Type 304,
2B-finish stainless
steel interior with
continuously back-
welded seams.
It also includes
an air-operated
rear sliding door,
reinforced ¼" steel plate top and wear bars at the sides of the
workspace. The floor of the workspace is reinforced for 1,000
lbs. loading at a removable subway grate.
Controls include a digital indicating temperature controller
and manual reset excess temperature controller with separate
contactors, and a recirculating blower airflow safety switch.

Meter Specially Designed for Low-Gloss Surfaces
Designed specifically for measuring low-gloss surfaces, the
Novo-Gloss Flex 60 gloss meter from Paul N. Gardner Co. com-
bines the functionality and reporting of an advanced gloss meter
with an ultra-lightweight remote measuring head. An additional
measuring scale provides a resolution 10 times greater than
standard gloss meters, the company says.
Features include fast measurement of parameters, on-board
statistics with graphical trend analysis and reporting, user-
definable batch names and batch sizes, and a USB connection.
Applications include curved plastic parts, automotive
interior trim, furniture and curved matte surfaces.
