PRODUCTS FINISHING 48 MARCH 2017 — PFonline.com BY HANNAH COOMBS ASSISTANT EDITOR I N N O V A TOR Be a Products Finishing Innovator Contact hcoombs@pfonline.com to highlight your latest innovations in finishing. Lincoln Industries | Lincoln, Nebraska 402-475-3671 | lincolnindustries.com Thermal Insulating Coating Protects Against Heat, External Corrosion Lincoln Industries' ThermoLinc Genesis supports temperatures as high as 400°F. According to metal finisher Lincoln Industries, heat management goes beyond maintaining temperature. Heat management can take several different forms for ev- erything from comfort, safety, performance and ultimately the functionality of that product. To achieve those elements, Lincoln is licensing ThermoLinc Genesis, a thermal insulating coating with unique protective properties for temperatures as high as 400°F (204°C). The product also protects against moisture, corrosion and abrasion. ThermoLinc Genesis serves vehicular exhaust systems where protecting nearby components from heat is essential. The coating uses a moisture-activated resin chemistry that forms into a glass matrix, with insulating materials and key ingredients that deliver a durable, low thermal conductivity coating. The product also provides thermal and corrosion under insulation protection against external corrosion caused by moisture buildup on the surface of insulated equipment. The technology is said to be lightweight, pliable and able to expand and contract with changes in the substrate. Launched two years ago, Lincoln's innovation team developed the coat- ing aƞer working with a customer and understanding the issue from the customer's point of view. "Our current customer was having heat challenges within their engine and the surrounding components and is using this coating to keep heat maintained within their engine," says Chad Nadgwick, director of business development. Originally designed to meet the needs of automotive and truck manufacturers, Genesis is an alternative to ineffective thermal insulating jackets used to reduce condensation within venturi passages with products such as EGR components, en- gine manifolds, exhaust pipes and industrial pipes. Lincoln works with customers as soon as they become aware of heat management challenges and then analyzes the vehicle or system to identify the cause. The company emphasizes the role of responsive technology and, as a result, its products are directly driven by the problems that customers face. Genesis offers protection against external corrosion caused by moisture buildup on the surface of insulated equipment.
