30 JUNE 2014 — pfonline.com S H O W C A S E Mechanical Finishing Dry Process Media Reduces Finishing Time Bel Air Finishing Supply ofers a "dry process media" technol- ogy for super-polishing and fnishing aerospace and aircraf blades, blisks, and other engine and compressor components. No water is needed in most cases, reducing the cost and mess associated with wet processing, and wastewater treatment and disposal. The equipment occupies a small footprint, enabling manufactures to bring the entire polishing process in-house. The process is designed to be repeatable, produce low surface Ra measurements and reduce fnishing time. According to Bel Air, the system can reduce reliance on subcontractors and the cost of shipping. Bel Air Finishing Supply / 401-667-7902 / belairfinishing.com Robotic Spindle-Blast Machine Processes Multiple Components Guyson Corp.'s RB-RXS-400 robotic grit-blasting machine ofers a 180-degree indexing table and servomotor-driven spindles holding multi-component fxtures for production surface preparation applications. The compact blast system features a six-axis FANUC M-10iA robot positioned at the rear of the blast cabinet to direct a single blast nozzle. The nozzle manipulator maintains the correct angle, stand-of distance and surface speed throughout blasting, while the servo spindles are controlled as auxiliary axes of coordinated robotic motion to accurately orient each component. According to Guyson, the robotic blast system delivers a consistent fnish on complex-shaped components while consuming less air and grit. It then can be reconfgured to process workpieces with a completely diferent geometry. They each feature a slightly inclined, spiral-bottom process channel of more than 180 degrees that enables gentle processing combined with a high metal removal rate. A gate-clearing feature that runs prior to the screening cycle ensures that workpieces and media cannot be caught between the separation fap and the bottom of the process channel. The fap is only lowered when the gate area is completely free of compo- nents and media, helping to prevent damage to work- pieces during the separation process. Separation can be done manually or auto- matically via a separate timer. Seven models are available, with useable volume ranging from 4.4 to 42.4 cu. f. Walther Trowal GmbH / 616-455-8940 / walther-trowal.com Mini-Drag Machines Eliminate Impingement Rosler's R-SF line of mini-drag machines are well-suited to components ranging from propellers and golf clubs to artifcial joints and dental implants. The eficient fnishing machines provide increased grinding power while eliminating impingement between delicate components, the company says. They are said to provide quality fnishes and precise, repeatable processes. The machines feature hydraulically powered carousel as- semblies, enabling vertical movement for versatile process- ing. They are equipped with as many as four rotating work- stations, each with independent drives. A PLC-based control panel, a work bowl lined with wear-resistant polyurethane, a protective cabin with plexiglass doors and industrial-grade motors all are standard. A media unload port enables quick media changes, and dosing equipment accurately manages water and compounds.
