ASSOCIATION DIGEST 2013 Electrocoating Events Garner High Attendance Karen McGlothlin, Executive Director, The Electrocoat Association, karen.mcglothlin@electrocoat.org The Electrocoat Association and the Chemical Coaters' Association International hosted the 2013 Electrocoating Seminar at the Sheraton Music City Hotel Sept. 17-18, 2013, with a record-breaking attendance. The seminar presents a morning of basic electrocoating topics before shifting to more advanced content in the remaining sessions. Industry experts examined the electrocoating process to expose areas of energy, waste and cost savings while identifying best practices. Attendees enjoyed a reception on the first evening and a tour of MetoKote's Lebanon, Tenn., plant to round out the seminar experience. Held in conjunction, the 2013 Annual Meeting, including the induction of new board members and officers, was conducted before adjourning for dinner. John Martin, PPG Industries Inc. and outgoing president was presented with a plaque for his continued leadership in the association with many best wishes for a long and happy retirement. Ecoat14 Website Open for Business Scheduled for April 22-24, 2014, at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Ecoat14 is presented by The Electrocoat Association and Products Finishing magazine. The Ecoat14 website hosts information on the technical program, speakers, venue and everything you need to register and attend. The event presents opportunities to learn from suppliers and end users, evaluate new technology and applications with respect to your own operation; meet and network with industry colleagues and potential new customers. Ecoat14 is an educational experience for everyone involved in the electrocoat business. Registered attendees receive a conference notebook and a CD of the conference proceedings. Presentations will also be available online prior to and after the conference for paid attendees. Continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks and the Industry Awards Luncheon are also included. PCI Ofers Best Educational Programs Ever in 2014 Dave Lurie, Executive Director, The Powder Coating Institute, dlurie@powdercoating.org The Powder Coating Institute announces our most ambitious training and educational agenda ever in 2014. Powder Coating technology is universally regarded as a "Stronger, Greener, Better" finish for many applications. As evidenced by a strong 2013 at PCI, more and more finishing professionals are interested in incorporating powder coating into their operations. The PCI educational lineup for 2014 continues to help finishing professionals access the most accurate and expert information available anywhere in the world. Our program starts at Alabama Power's new Application Technology Center just outside of Birmingham, Ala., Jan. 14-15, 2014 with the first of our five Powder Coating 101 seminars. With the assistance of new PCI member, Alabama Power, attendees will learn about the basics of powder coating and also receive hands on education in their state-of-the-art facility. The programming continues on Jan. 23, 2014, with the first of ten webinars. The first topic is on Pretreatment Options. Pretreatment is essential to the finish's adhesion and durability, and PCI will have an expert conducting the webinar with time allowed for questions and answers. Attendees will also have access to the speaker after the session for additional questions. Feb. 11-12, 2014, PCI starts its first of four Optimizing Your Powder Coating Operation seminars at the headquarters of Parker Ionics in Westland, Mich. In addition to this 202-level seminar, participants will have time and access to some of the latest equipment for application, quality control testing and drying and curing for hands-on powder coating. On March 27-28, 2014, is our Custom Coater Summit in Las Vegas. This gathering of the best and brightest job shops is devoted to improving the quality of powder coatings in industry. Topics include certification, new technology, leadership training and much more. June 17-18, 2014, PCI, in conjunction with the Powder Coating Research Group, hosts the Powder Coating Summit in Columbus, Ohio. This event brings together the greatest minds in the technical and commercial communities for a two day event guaranteed to energize and inspire new growth in powder coating technology. In addition, there is a full-day tutorial that includes a live demonstration of the powder coating manufacturing process. Finally, the most important event of the year is the 2014 Powder Coating Expo and Technical Conference which will take place in Indianapolis Sept. 16-18, 2014. Coming off of another well-received show in 2013, the 2014 show promises to be better than ever with more training and education in two and a half days than is available anywhere else in the world. Powder coating continues to expand and PCI continues to expand our education and training for this growing industry. We will host a total of 22 events in 2014 and look forward to seeing those professionals who want to stay up-to-date with 21st century finishing technology.
