BECOME A MEMBER AT NASF.ORG Sur/Fin 2014 Conference Call for Abstracts Now Open The National Association for Surface Finishing's Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has announced that the 2014 Sur/Fin Call for Abstracts is now open! All submissions are due by Jan. 15, 2014. A broader conference program is in the making this year that will also include relevant and timely issues facing industrial finishers. Along with key invited speakers for the program, the TAC is asking experienced speakers to present on a variety of areas outlined in 12 sessions representing such topics as: • Aerospace & Defense: inorganic and organic coatings, including Cd & Cr alternatives • Automotive Coatings: functional and decorative • Advances in Surface Finishing Technology: advanced plating and fnishing, databases • Light Materials Finishing: anodizing, sealing, cleaning, dimensional restoration • Corrosion: coatings, treatments, modeling, etc. • Zinc Nickel: Cd replacement, performance, specifcation • Regulatory: REACH, air emissions, EPA & OSHA house keeping requirements, meeting GHS & SDS requirements may cause the release of nickel ions by corrosion. This is especially the case when the corrosion is accelerated by a galvanic coupling with other metals and in the presence of a "sweat-induced electrolyte" containing chloride, lactate or ammonia ions, among others. The alarming frequency of sensitization to nickel, especially in the U.S., has caused nickel to be selected as the "allergen of the year" in 2008 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. Nickel as a coating in contact with skin has already been regulated by the nickel European Union directive [94/27/EC] since 1994. In this paper, tin/nickel alloy coatings (66.9 wt% Sn) electrodeposited from a chloride/fuoride-containing alloy electrolyte are presented as an alternative for both nickel and bright-chromium coatings. The main focus is on corrosion properties, covering investigations into corrosion-potential measurements for the diferent coatings, estimation of corrosion rates for materials in galvanic coupling with tin/ nickel coatings, salt spray tests, medical tests, and immersion tests of tin/nickel coatings in artifcial sweat. The full paper can be accessed and printed from short.pfonline.com/NASF13Dec2. • • Coatings for Electronics Best Practices: process eficiency, modeling and computational methods Speaking at Sur/Fin has proven to be an excellent opportunity for leaders in the industry to showcase their knowledge in the fnishing industry, align themselves with other industry leaders, and network with a powerful lineup of infuential corporate oficials throughout the industry. Due to the volume of submissions, the NASF Technology Advisory Committee will begin reviewing all abstracts immediately and may be unable to accept late submissions; yet priority will be given to early submissions. Accepted speakers will receive complimentary full conference admission to the 2014 as well as full promotion of their presentation. The Sur/Fin Manufacturing & Technology Tradeshow & Conference is produced by the National Association for Surface Finishing and serves as the premier event for the surface fnishing industry. The 2014 program will take place June 9 - 11 at the newly constructed Cleveland Convention Center. For complete details of all sessions and topics, visit NASF surfn.com. Exhibit and Attendance figures continue to grow as NASF prepares for its 96th Annual Tradeshow & Conference, Sur/Fin, to be held June 9-11 in Cleveland. PRODUCTS FINISHING — pfonline.com 15
