Blackening System Produces Smut-Free
Magnetite Finish
EPi's Kool-Blak mid-temperature blackening system is designed
to deliver a durable, black oxide fnish without smut. The fnish,
which meets military specs MIL-DTS 13924D and AMS 2458H,
ofers abrasion resistance without chipping, peeling or rubbing of. It blackens at 220-245°F and does not produce caustic
boiling fumes, resulting in energy cost savings and a safer work
environment for machine operators, the company says.

High Corrosion Resistance
DuPont distributor Intech Services has
released a new DuPont Tefon industrial
coating that provides corrosion resistance
of as much as 3,000 salt spray hrs. Specifcally engineered for coating of-shore,
chemical processing and water treatment
fasteners, the water-based, low-VOC coating is targeted toward applications requiring outstanding corrosion resistance,
anti-galling and dry lubrication.
According to Intech, salt spray tests
performed by an outside company
showed excellent corrosion resistance
even without surface pretreatment,
although corrosion resistance can be
enhanced if used with recommended
primers and substrate pretreatments.
Fasteners with a zinc basecoat of 0.3
mils are said to have easily passed ASTM
testing of less than-10-percent red rust at
3,000 salt spray hrs. Excellent corrosion
resistance can also be achieved without
pretreatments on aluminum steel and
stainless steel substrates, Intech says.
The coatings can be applied to thicknesses of 1-4.5 mils. They currently are
available in blue and red colors, and
yellow and black colors are expected to
be added in the near future.
