NE W P RO DU C TS Polymer Sealant Produces Protective Finish Porcelain Technologies Improve Efficiency Clearlok from Birchwood Technologies is an "all-purpose" water-based polyurethane sealant formulated to provide a protective topcoat on most metal surfaces. Clearlok produces a clear, hard and glossy sealant that is said to offer scratch and scuff resistance and long-term corrosion protection. It is suited for black oxide finishes on iron and steel; black finishes on aluminum; and non-finished iron, steel and aluminum surfaces. The sealant produces a final coating thickness of 0.0001 to 0.00003 inches, and it is rated for corrosion resistance of 12-24 hrs of neutral salt spray or more than 100 hrs of humidity exposure. It contains no harmful VOCs and is supplied as a heavy-bodied liquid that can be diluted with water for application using immersion tank processes or for easy brush-on application. According to the company, it can be easily implemented on most plating and finishing lines. Clearlok can dry quickly at room temperature or can be force-dried using warm air. Nordson Corp.'s Encore porcelain enamel (PE) guns and Encore PE pump are designed to improve operating efficiency in porcelain enamel coating operations. They incorporate the designs and performance of their predecessors, the Versa-Spray PE guns and Nordson 100 Plus PE pump, but offer enhanced versatility, efficiency and coating performance, the company says. Encore PE guns are available in manual and automatic configurations. Both feature a 100-kV voltage multiplier for maximum first-pass transfer efficiency, a significant increase for the manual gun over previous-generation models. In addition, a positively retained deflector and locking pattern adjustment sleeve ensures consistent, repeatable spray performance. An electrode air wash also helps keep the gun-charging electrode clean, maintaining maximum electrostatic charging efficiency. This also helps prevent agglomerated powder from disturbing the spray pattern, or dislodging and inadvertently being applied to the part, causing possible surface finish defects. Other enhanced gun features include an adjustable mounting bracket; parts commonality between automatic and manual guns to ensure consistency and minimize replacement parts inventory; optional straight and angled flat-spray nozzles and ion collector to meet various application needs; and a choice of gun controllers with digital, closed-loop pneumatic control. The Encore PE Pump is said to deliver as much as 30 percent more powder at comparable compressed air settings compared with the Nordson 100 Plus PE pump, resulting in decreased compressed air consumption.
